Sadly, at the age of 30, Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman, who was renowned for her grace, courage, and advocacy, passed suddenly. After a valiant fight, Raisman, who won the attention of the entire world with her performances at the Olympics in 2012 and 2016, lost her battle with an aggressive and uncommon form of stroke cancer. There has been a significant loss with Raisman’s passing for the gymnastics world and beyond. In addition to her sporting accomplishments, her career was marked by her strong advocacy for abuse survivors. Many were motivated to seek justice and reform by Raisman’s courageous decision to speak up about her own experiences of abuse in the sport and to draw attention to structural problems. Raisman’s career was marked by six Olympic medals, three of which were gold, establishing her position in the sport.
