Lando Norris has criticized F1 title challenger Max Verstappen’s “dangerous” racing following incidents in the Mexico City Grand Prix.
On lap 10 of the race won by Carlos Sainz, the McLaren driver attempted to pass the Red Bull around the outside of Turn 4, but Verstappen pulled Norris wide and onto the grass, allowing Sainz to pass.
Moments later, at Turn 8, Verstappen lunged at Norris, sending both cars off the track and enabling Charles Leclerc past.
Verstappen received 10-second penalties for each of these incidents, which he served after his pit stop, eventually finishing sixth and Norris second.
The championship gap is now 47 points, as Norris stated in the vehicle that Verstappen’s moves were “dangerous” and that he nearly “ended up in the wall.”
Seven days after the incident surrounding the US Grand Prix, Norris stated that he was “expecting” such a move after finishing second.
“I knew what to expect, but I didn’t want to expect such a thing because I respect Max a lot as a driver,” Norris says.
“But I was prepared for something like this, and it was not very clean driving in my opinion, so I avoided it.
“It was a good race, and I’ll just put my head down and try my best; we’re doing an excellent job as a team.
“Today we were probably quickest in the end, but we will keep our head down, that is all I can do for now: focus on ourselves and keep pushing.”
