Aaron Plessinger won San Diego.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing starts first on the list. Aaron Plessinger takes his first 450SX win! Last year, he was heartbreakingly close to winning his first 450SX Monster Energy AMA Supercross Main Event in Detroit, only to lose it on the penultimate lap after a dramatic crash. One year later, “The Cowboy” sought redemption in San Diego, winning his elusive career-first triumph. Plessinger has been knocking on the door for a while, but last year’s near-miss left everyone wondering if he’d get another chance. When the opportunity arose in San Diego, he seized it, giving a performance that thrilled the crowd and highlighted by a win that rocked the sport. Even other competitors cheered for Plessinger that night.
Chase Sexton improved from 40th to first place in Hangtown Moto 2.
Second, Chase Sexton of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing made a jaw-dropping effort at the AMA Pro Motocross Championship Round 2 at Hangtown, delivering one of the sport’s most memorable rides. After crashing in the third corner and finishing dead last in 40th place, Sexton staged a remarkable recovery, picking off every rider in his way. With only a quarter of a lap remaining, he closed a three-second gap on his colleague Plessinger and took the lead in an incredible finale. This remarkable performance by the 2024 450MX Champion will go down in history as the first time a rider came from last place to win.
Jett Lawrence versus Eli Tomac. Charlotte Playoff 1, Moto 2
Last but not least, in an explosive confrontation at the SMX Playoff 1 in Charlotte, Team Honda HRC Progressive’s Jett Lawrence and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac provided a battle to remember. Tomac got out to a strong start and took the early lead, but Lawrence refused to back down, determined to establish himself against the veteran in their first epic encounter.
