Kash van Hamond of Best is eleven years old and has been the reigning world champion motocross in the 65cc class since the middle of July. He aspires to achieve much more.
Young Kash van Hamond exudes zeal and drive as he rides his training laps on the De Landsard circuit. He even rides his motorcycle during his summer vacation. He prefers that to swimming or building a hut. “I may have a world title now, but we just have to keep going,” he says with professionalism.
Kash is also frustrated that he must ride his 65cc motorcycle during training to shoot a video. He’d rather take the 85cc he’ll be riding next season. “I hope to rejoin Team NL and win the title again,” he says, ambitiously.
Tears
But first, let us go back to July 14, this year. At the age of 11, the young motocross rider from Best wins his first world championship. When he crosses the finish line first in Heerde, he screams with joy and sheds tears freely.
“A lot of people came to see me”, Kash says. “They all told me to step on the gas. That added to the strain, but you had to let it go. It was an emotional experience for me to win. I wanted to go see my father right soon since I was overjoyed. Because he ensured that I could become a world champion. “Just like my mom and sister.”
The entire family is devoted to motocross and celebrates Kash’s success together. “He worked hard for it, and I’m very proud,” says father Ramon van Hamond. Mother Michelle also had a wonderful day. “I felt goosebumps from beginning to end. “The feeling was extreme.”
Two jobs.
Kash’s support does take a long time. “I actually have two jobs,” Ramon explains. “And you must be on the same page as your family. Because if our daughter dislikes anything, it’s over. But she also helps out. I hope he does well in the future, but that is still a long way off. “Until then, we’ll have a lot of fun.”
Kash is obviously having fun, but he also has great plans. “I want to be the world champion in MXGP,” he states emphatically. “Just like Jeff Herlings or Jorge Prado. Yes, I do dream of that.
