On his Formula One debut, the Mercedes protégé crashed badly at Parabolica.
Andrea, Mercedes’ protege Kimi Antonelli crashed badly during Free Practice 1 at the Italian Grand Prix, his F1 debut.
Antonelli, who was deputising for George Russell in the FP1 session, lost control of the W15 when rounding the Parabolica, spitting him broadside into the tyre barrier after flying through the gravel.
He was able to climb out of the car unaided, and Antonelli was transported to the medical center as is standard protocol.
Antonelli apologized to the team for the accident, prompting a rare radio intervention from Toto Wolff to reassure the 18-year-old, assuring “it was all good, Kimi.”
Antonelli is expected to replace Ferrari-bound Lewis Hamilton in 2025, despite the fact that the Briton led the timings prior to the tragedy.
