Jos Verstappen has unleashed a blistering attack on the English media following his son Max’s stunning triumph in Brazil.
The three-time F1 champion performed a textbook effort in the wet, jumping from 17th on the grid to win by more than 19 seconds over Esteban Ocon.
Verstappen took a jab at the British media during the post-race FIA press conference, claiming he had been unfairly punished for the two 10-second time penalties he received during the Mexico City Grand Prix for incidents with McLaren’s Lando Norris.
The elder Verstappen has also joined in. Speaking to De Telegraaf, Verstappen Sr expressed optimism that his son Max has learned the British media a lesson.
“This is Max’s perfect answer to a lot of whining, and certainly in the direction of the English,” he exclaimed.
“Commentators, journalists, and previous drivers will keep their big mouths shut for now. Max has proven that he is the best.
“Who are these folks who say he needs to change his driving style? His driving style is flawless! Also, in his first lap in the wet, he improved six positions. He is always perfect in these situations.”
Verstappen Sr did not just criticize one media outlet; he also chastised the British press on Sky Germany.
“He showed who is the best,” he remarked. “I assume he was highly driven following the terrible press coverage from England and the negative drivers.
“They believe they are bringing him down, but he will only improve as a result. I’m quite proud of what he accomplished. “The entire world saw who was the best.”
