Four F1 drivers to face stewards after the Brazilian GP.

Four F1 drivers will face stewards for a start infraction in the São Paulo Grand Prix.

Race control chose to abort the start following a formation lap incident at Interlagos involving Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, who impacted a wall after sliding off track, only to land his vehicle in a gravel trap in an attempt to recover.

 

With the rest of the field lining up in their grid places and Stroll’s vehicle stranded and in need of rescue, race director Niels Wittich had no choice but to abort.

 

Lando Norris of McLaren pulled away from pole position. The Briton was followed by George Russell’s Mercedes and the RB combo of Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson, who lined up third and fifth, respectively.

 

Norris”starting infringement procedure’ was first identified before an investigation was launched. It wasn’t until many minutes later that the stewards noticed Russell, Tsunoda, and Lawson.

 

Given the peculiar circumstances surrounding the aborted start, the stewards decided that the investigations should take place after the race.

 

The notion is that the stewards should consult with the drivers to understand their reasoning rather than attempting to determine what happened and impose an in-race penalty.
