Max Verstappen will start his 200th grand prix this weekend in his hometown of Zandvoort, which will host the Dutch Grand Prix.
Max Verstappen has announced that he would not participate in F1 for another 200 races after reaching the milestone this weekend.
The three-time world champion will compete in his 200th grand prix, making him the 24th driver in history to accomplish it.
Verstappen’s career in Formula One has been extremely successful, with over 60 race wins and over 100 podium finishes to his record.
The 26-year-old has previously threatened to terminate his F1 career when his current deal expires in 2028 owing to concerns about the sport’s direction, while also expressing desire in pursuing other racing endeavors.
When asked if he saw himself in F1 for another 200 races, Verstappen replied, “No. Nice and simple.
“We’ve definitely passed the halfway point in my Formula One career. It has been a fantastic ride. 200 races does not feel like 200.
“But of course we’re doing a lot of races now in a year so you add them [up] quite quickly.”
Verstappen chooses F1 career highlights.
Verstappen won his first F1 race with Red Bull at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, when he was just 18.
Five years later, he won his first Formula One title after a season-long battle against Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
Verstappen referred to the two moments as his F1 career highlights to yet.
“Honestly, I think winning your very first race, that is always very emotional because you dream of that when you’re a little kid,” remarked the driver.
“Being on the podium in F1 and then on the top step, I think, is always something remarkable.
“[Also] winning your first championship, these kind of things, they will always be something incredible that I will look back at after my career.”
